TANZANIAN STUDENTS TO OBSERVE EARTH DAY 2011 The African People and Wildlife Fund to Host Event on April 22

WASHINGTON, DC – Earth Day Network announced today another Earth Day 2011 event from The African People and Wildlife Fund that will organize approximately 1,000 Tanzanian students to participate in a series of Earth Day activities. The African People and Wildlife will host an Earth Day event in Loibor Siret village in Simanjiro district, Tanzania on Friday, April 22nd at 1:00pm.  About 1,000 students from surrounding villages will learn the importance of Earth Day’s vision of helping the environment.  They will participate in various activities such as tree plantings and trash clean-ups as part of Earth Day Network’s effort to collect one billion Acts of environmental service before the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, aka Rio+20.  To date, over 72 million Acts have been recorded. “As we reach for our lofty goal of collecting a billion Acts of Green worldwide, great partners like African People and Wildlife are critical to amplifying the voice of the movement,” said Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network.  Rogers added that this year’s A Billion Acts of Green® Earth Day campaign aims to spur government leaders in Rio to action by showing them how strongly the world’s citizens care about sustainability. “At The African People and Wildlife Fund, we recognize today’s students are tomorrow’s environmental leaders.  We are thrilled to be a part of Earth Day Network and to help link rural Tanzanian students to the international environmental community through the Billion Acts of Green Campaign,” said Dr. Laly Lichtenfeld, Executive Director of African People and Wildlife.
