Earth Day Network India Empowers Educators with Release of E-Book for Climate Education

Washington, D.C. (September 8, 2023)- In celebration of International Literacy Day, Earth Day Network India, a regional partner of EARTHDAY.ORG, proudly unveiled its educational resource: the “Handbook for Teachers: ‘What is Climate Change? Innovative Ways to Engage Students.'” This invaluable e-book, a collaborative effort of 14 contributors, the majority of whom are dedicated educators, presents captivating approaches to nurture climate literacy among students and foster a generation of environmental stewards from an early age.

Mandating climate literacy is a paramount objective for EARTHDAY.ORG, and their colleagues at Earth Day Network India. The release of this handbook, which is available as a free resource, marks a significant milestone in its mission to advance environmental education and ensure that essential climate knowledge is easily accessible to everyone.

“Together, we are forging a path towards universal climate education, and I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our collaborators and esteemed panelists for their invaluable contributions to this pioneering endeavor,” said Karuna Singh, Regional Director of Asia at EARTHDAY.ORG.

The launch event, held virtually, featured esteemed speakers who shared their insights on the critical importance of climate education. Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Founder Director of the Centre for Environment Education, Dr. Arup Kumar Mitra, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and the event’s moderator, Neela Majumdar, Director of Education for South and Southeast Asia at EARTHDAY.ORG, highlighted the e-book’s collaboration with Bichitra Pathshala, and stressed the need for young minds to grasp anthropogenic impacts on climate change and adopt sustainable practices.

“To achieve universal climate education we need to support policy and create the resources and training materials necessary for this learning to reach students,” said Bryce Coon, Director of Climate Education Initiatives at EARTHDAY.ORG. “This e-book serves as a crucial resource, enabling teachers to promptly incorporate climate education into their classrooms while exemplifying the essential components of all climate education materials.”

Earth Day Network India draws inspiration from EARTHDAY.ORG’s Climate Education and Environmental Literacy campaign, reinforcing its commitment to environmental awareness and empowering communities. This campaign equips individuals with the knowledge for sustainable practices, fostering green jobs, and supporting a thriving green economy, aligning with the shared vision of a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
