Earth Day Network and The Corps Network Announce Partnership for Earth Day 2020

Washington D.C – Earth Day Network, the global coordinator of Earth Day, has announced a new partnership with The Corps Network, the national association of Service and Conservation Corps in the United States, in support of the Great Global Cleanup™. Together, both organizations will work together in mobilizing their respective networks towards achieving tangible impacts on waste in our environment and inspiring others to act. The partnership comes at a time when momentum for the 50^th anniversary of Earth Day continues to build. Launched for Earth Day 2019, the Great Global Cleanup™ organized over 5,000 cleanups and saw 500,000 volunteers in all 50 U.S. states, territories, and select Canadian cities tackle plastic pollution and encourage individual and government changes towards consumption. “We are excited to be working and volunteering alongside The Corps Networks’ dedicated members,” said Earth Day Network President Kathleen Rogers. “Together, the Great Global Cleanup™ can lead to lasting change in how we as a planet deal with waste.” Based in Washington, DC, The Corps Network has a membership of more than 130 Service and Conservation Corps across the United States. Corps are programs that annually engage over 25,000 young adults and recent veterans in service projects that address conservation and community concerns. Through a term of service that could last from a few months to a year, Corps participants gain work experience and job skills for the expanding outdoor and green economies. Since 1985, The Corps Network has served Corps through advocacy and providing access to funding, project opportunities, and technical assistance. “The ethics of service and conservation are at the heart of the Corps movement,” said Mary Ellen Sprenkel, President and CEO of The Corps Network. “We look forward to working with Earth Day Network to engage more young people and communities throughout the United States in helping clean up our environment on Earth Day and beyond.” Earth Day 2020 comes 50 years after the first Earth Day which, in 1970, mobilized over 20 million citizens to demand action on the environmental challenges of the time.
