North Carolina still does not have a framework to teach climate education in K-12 schools. However, House Bill 965 mandates that climate education is taught in k-5 settings. Though this is a step in the right direction, it’s necessary for North Carolina to mandate climate education across all grade levels to ensure that students are prepared and understand our changing world.
New science standards in North Carolina include more content related to anthropogenic climate change. These standards are set to take effect during the 2024-2025 school year.
