Faith & the Environment Program Coordinator Job Description

Position Type: Full Time

Compensation: $65,000

As the Faith & Environment Program Coordinator at EARTHDAY.ORG, you will be instrumental in driving profound systemic change by mobilizing diverse congregations across spiritual backgrounds to actively engage in Earth Day as well as year-round environmental activations. Your role will be pivotal in establishing strong relationships with houses of worship across faiths and the institutions that support them, successfully activating these communities to create or take part in high-impact volunteer events and advocacy opportunities. This position offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between faith and environmental action, fostering a sense of responsibility and collective action towards a more sustainable future.

Responsibilities

· Help build, expand and support EARTHDAY.ORG’s global network of faith–based organizations. Work with faith institutions of all backgrounds and sizes, from local houses of worship to international religious bodies.

· Develop and implement strategies to effectively communicate the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability practices to congregations and other organizations connecting people of faith through workshops, educational materials, and other appropriate channels.

· Create an outreach plan complete with goals and measures of success with the head of National Campaigns and Senior Vice President.

· Build a dedicated, diverse community of interfaith partners to distribute EDO messaging and engage the global faith community by hosting regularly scheduled partner meetings.

· Develop in collaboration with EDO staff communications materials for campaign partners/influencers/stakeholders, including toolkits, newsletters, and social media toolkits with pre-written messages and images to share.

· Contribute to the coordination, resource development, and planning of events and activities.

· Assist in the writing of grant proposals for this program.

· Work with the head of National Campaigns and other members of the senior staff to develop strategic goals your campaign

· Engage in the day-to-day operations of EARTHDAY.ORG, including meetings, correspondence, and events.

· Additional activities in support of protection of the environment.

· Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, religious studies, sustainability, or a related field.

· Experience working with congregations, faith leaders, and religious organizations, with an understanding of their structures, practices, and engagement strategies. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of how these structures affect their ability to mobilize for environmental action and internal sustainability measures.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with individuals from diverse religious backgrounds.

· Knowledge of environmental issues and sustainability practices, and the ability to effectively communicate these topics to congregations in a faith-based context. The ideal candidate understands that the call for humanity to be a steward of nature is a common denominator among all spiritual traditions.

· Familiarity with interfaith initiatives, networks, and resources related to faith and the environment.

· Passion for environmental conservation and a strong commitment to engaging religious communities in Earth Day activities and environmental stewardship.

· Grant writing and fundraising experience is a plus
