EDN News: Tracey Ritchie Selected for ee360 Community EE Fellowship

Good news: Earth Day Network’s Director of Education, Tracey Ritchie, was selected to take part in the ee360 Community EE Fellowship program. She is one of 33 fellows chosen to inspire leaders to address environmental challenges and help build community resiliency.
Tracey’s Community Action Project will focus on developing environmental literacy and civic engagement skills in students in Washington, D.C., and bolster EDN’s National Civic Education Project (NCEP) to empower students to take on local environmental challenges. The NCEP for DC will include a teacher training session (both in-person and virtual) to equip teachers with the knowledge, skills, and efficacy to lead student-driven projects and familiarize them with local environmental issues that students can work to alleviate. Teachers will lead lessons in which students will learn about environmental issues that negatively affect their community, as well as civic skills to learn how to be an active part of their community and make a difference. This program will be translated into an online resource where teachers and students from around the globe can learn how to implement project-based learning successfully to achieve academic goals for both the sciences and the humanities.
“I am so honored to participate in this amazing program and work with and learn from an incredible group of international environmental educators,” says Tracey. “I look forward to developing a project that will address EDN’s mission to diversify, educate, and activate the environmental movement right here in our local community of Washington, D.C. — as well as develop a program template that can be useful for educators worldwide.”
