Climate Action

EARTHDAY.ORG named a Global Alliance Partner of The Earthshot Prize, launched today by Prince William

Today marks the launch of The Earthshot Prize, a prestigious global environment prize incentivizing worldwide change with a decade of action to repair our planet.

This prize will support efforts to protect and restore the environment, while shining a light on optimism and human ingenuity as powerful forces to bring about change. We are honored to be part of this prize as a Global Alliance Partner, and to have worked closely with The Royal Foundation on its development.

It is centered around five ‘Earthshots’ — simple but ambitious goals for our planet, which if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all, and for future generations. The Earthshots focus on protecting and restoring nature, cleaning our air, reviving our oceans, building a waste-free world and fixing our climate.

Brought together under The Earthshot Prize, these five critical themes represent the interconnectivity of all environmental challenges, as well as the critical need for innovative solutions to create a safer, more healthy planet for all.

Every year from 2021 until 2030, Prince William, alongside The Earthshot Prize Council, will award The Earthshot Prize to five winners, one per Earthshot, whose evidence-based solutions make the most progress towards these goals. Prizes could be awarded to a wide range of individuals, teams or collaborations — anyone whose workable solutions make a substantial contribution to achieving the Earthshots.

We are delighted to be a Global Alliance Partner of this critical initiative, as it aligns so strongly with our 2021 theme of Restore Our Earth. Much like the Earthshots, the tenets of Restore Our Earth are natural processes and emerging green technologies that can restore the world’s ecosystems.

We hope to create a planet where humans work with nature — not against it — through solutions such as reforestation, regenerative agriculture and species conservation.
