Congratulations to the 2011 Goldman Environmental Prize Winners!

Grassroots environmental heroes too often go unrecognized. Yet their efforts to protect the world’s natural resources are increasingly critical to the well-being of the planet. The Goldman Environmental Prize, now in its 22nd year, is awarded annually to grassroots environmental heroes from each of the world’s six inhabited continental regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Islands and Island Nations, and North, South and Central America.  Many of these individuals risk their lives and livelihoods to fight for a just and safe planet where all living things may thrive.

Be sure to take inspiration from this year’s winners, who work against all odds to protect the environment and their communities:

RAOUL DU TOIT, Zimbabwe
DMITRY LISITSYN, Russia

URSULA SLADEK, Germany
PRIGI ARISANDI, Indonesia

HILTON KELLY, USA
FRANCISCO PINEDA, El Salvador

The Goldman Prize gives these outstanding activists international acclaim that enhances their credibility, worldwide visibility for the issues they champion, and financial support of $150,000 to pursue their vision of a renewed and protected environment.  Earth Day Network salutes these amazing individuals and their supporters!
