Kids: Paint Life in a Forest, Win a Trip to Indonesia!

Create ‘green’ art for Earth Day 2011!  Earth Day Network and the United Nations Environment Programme’s youth branch (UNEP-Tunza) are working together to encourage everyone to participate in the 20th Children’s Painting Competition for Earth Day 2011!!  To highlight the UN's International Year of Forests in 2011, the theme of UNEP’s 20th International children's painting competition is 'Life in the Forests.’  If you are between 6 and 14 years of age, you can win up to $2,000 and a trip to Indonesia for the UNEP-Tunza International Children’s Conference!

How do you participate? It’s easy and fun!

  • Create a depiction of your unique view of ‘Life in the Forests’ with paint, markers, crayons, whatever – be creative!
  • Mail it to the closest UNEP-Tunza office in your region no later than April 15th,
  • That’s it! All entries will automatically be entered into A Billion Acts of Green® for Earth Day 2011!

You can submit by yourself or get your whole class involved! Please see official rules and regulations. All entries must arrive by April 15th!

The word “Tunza” means “to treat with care or affection” in Swahili.  Children and young people are the makers of our future world.  Understanding the importance of having youth participate in sustainable development, UNEP created its Tunza branch to collaborate with regional partners to involve youth in the natural world through a variety of activities and conferences.  With children growing up in a world of increasing environmental crisis and urbanization, we must educate them to understand that our planet is precious.  Organizations like Earth Day Network and the United Nations Environmental Programme are working to create future generations of environmental stewards by tapping into their imagination and creativity.

Organized annually by UNEP-Tunza and the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer and Nikon Corporations, the Children's Painting Competition has acquired more than 3 million entries from children in over 100 countries.

Come join us, use your imagination and paint a future for our forests!  Pick up a little ‘green’ inspiration, and win for the world during Earth Day 2011!
