24 Hours of Reality

Climate change is a global problem  — and the solutions will come when we address it together. That’s why this month, former Vice President Al Gore will host 24 Hours of Reality, a global event that will reveal the full truth, scope and impact of the climate crisis.

We’re hosting this event at a time when the scientific evidence of climate change is clear, and we can see the impact in front of our eyes. Intense rainstorms, severe droughts and heat waves are becoming more frequent. Scientists warned this would happen and predict it will get worse over time.

Yet every day, we are exposed to misinformation from those who deny the reality of manmade climate change. Just as tobacco companies once spent millions of dollars trying to undermine science and convince people that smoking was not deadly, powerful interests have stepped in to claim that the burning of fossil fuels does not threaten our planet.

But on our side we have a powerful advantage: Reality. And it’s time to bring the world together around the reality we all face.

24 Hours of Reality will take place over 24 hours, representing 24 time zones and 13 languages. The event will feature a new multimedia presentation created by Vice President Gore, and delivered by 23 citizen activists from around the world.

Beginning on in Mexico City on September 14 at 7 p.m. Central Time, the event will proceed westward around the globe with a new presentation each hour. It will conclude in New York City with a presentation by Vice President Gore, taking place on September 15 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The entire event will be broadcast live on the Internet by Ustream.

There are a few ways you can participate in the event:

-Visit www.climaterealityproject.org to learn more and view the event. RSVP for the event and sign up for updates.

-Show the event to your friends by embedding the Ustream 24 Hours player on your website, blog or Facebook page.

-Donate your Twitter or Facebook status to Climate Reality for a day.

-Most of all, don’t be afraid to speak out. Tell everyone you know that climate change is real and it’s happening now.

We hope you can join the global conversation on how we can solve the climate crisis. Join us on September 14 and 15 for 24 Hours of Reality.
