THOUSANDS TO CLEAN SANTA MONICA BEACH IN A MAJOR COMMUNITY EFFORT, APRIL 19

Santa Monica, CA (April 18, 2025) – In recognition of Earth Day and our 55th anniversary, EARTHDAY.ORG is taking part in the Nothin’ But Sand, clean up event in Santa Monica, California. Organized by Heal the Bay it will be one of largest volunteer beach cleanups in Southern California. Nothin’ But Sand, will draw over 1,700 volunteers for a collective effort to remove plastic pollution from the iconic shoreline.

Volunteers, students, families, and local civic leaders are expected to participate. Media will have the opportunity to interview key figures, including Antonique Smith, Heal the Bay’s CEO Tracey Quinn, Senior Director of Community Outreach and Partnerships Meredith McCarthy, and other local changemakers.
BACKGROUND: Grammy-nominated singer, actress, and environmental advocate Antonique Smith will join the event as an EARTHDAY.ORG Ambassador, speaking with volunteers and lending her voice to the movement for a waste-free world.
Local environmental leaders and Heal the Bay representatives will also be on site to provide insights into the ongoing environmental challenges facing Los Angeles, particularly how recent wildfires have increased runoff pollution impacting coastal waters.
