Vote Earth

FIRST THING’S FIRST:

The world is facing critical challenges as we work to fight through the COVID-19 outbreak.  It reminds us of our duty to one another as citizens of the planet.  It also reminds us of our civic duty.  Public health must be our first priority, but we cannot allow democracy to be put aside.  While primaries may be delayed or altered, and voting methods may need new precautions, we all should remember the importance of voting to provide the best leadership for our country and the planet.

Today we face an environmental crisis that requires an urgent and transformative response. We are falling short on global environmental targets. To defend our future and protect our planet, policymakers must do much more to bring the world to a zero-carbon future.

Vote Earth is a global initiative that mobilizes millions of people to demonstrate their concern for our planet by rejecting inaction and demanding change at the polls. As voting citizens, we have enormous power to drive change by making our voices heard.

In the coming months, years and decades, policies — national, statewide and local — will be critical for decisive, positive action to address climate change and environmental sustainability. Action on climate change is an inordinate opportunity for a cleaner, more secure world. It’s time to seize this opportunity.

In 2015, 195 countries came together to unanimously adopt the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which, for the first time unites all nations to take ambitious action to fight climate change. The national commitments that make up the agreement must be met, and even more must be done to address the climate crisis.

Vote Earth encourages citizens everywhere to use their voting power as a manner to ensure we address the climate crisis, combat environmental problems and restore, conserve and protect the natural world.

Communities around the world face the devastating impacts of poor air quality, wildfires, oil spills, sea level rise, climate change, loss of biodiversity and other environmental challenges. Now is the time to build a more diverse, inclusive and united environmental movement and to accelerate the green economy. Now is the time to Vote Earth.
