Earth Day Network announces artist Soumik Datta as Earth Day Network Ambassador in India

Earth Day Network, the global organizer of Earth Day since its inception on April 22, 1970, is proud to announce Soumik Datta, the well-known musician, as an Ambassador.

Soumik Datta said: “This year, I celebrated 50 years of Earth Day Network with the release of my new single ‘Tiger Tiger.’ Through the rhythms and soundscapes of the music, I hoped to draw listeners to the deeper issues of deforestation and endangered animals, especially the tiger — a symbol of my roots in Bengal.

“Today, I am deeply grateful and honoured to become an Ambassador for Earth Day Network. I join a host of inspiring artists and activists who champion the green cause, and together through the power of the arts, we hope to reduce the wreckage of our planet, to spread awareness of sustainability and climate change, to dispel myths and encourage compassion for all living beings.

“Over the past few months as the world has battled Covid-19, my own lockdown experience has reminded me that, in fact, we are never isolated but always connected with nature, a small part of a wider ecosystem, vibrating with its forces and elements, which we must now better respect, preserve and defend. Thank you for this honour and opportunity to work with you, Earth Day Network.”

Kathleen Rogers, President Earth Day said: “On behalf of Earth Day Network, I welcome composer, musician, TV presenter Soumik Datta as our Ambassador in India.  We are so delighted that he has agreed to take on this role.  His premier of the song ‘Tiger, Tiger’ was so effective in focusing on our Protect Our Species initiative. All of our plants and animals have value in themselves and are part of the web of life. Our lives and theirs are linked together inextricably — without them, our own species might not survive.’’

Karuna Singh, Regional Director Asia Earth Day Network said: “It is wonderful to meet the wonderful artist Soumik and hear about his deep concern for nature.  It is not for nothing that Vogue referred to him as ‘… one of the biggest new music talents in Britain.’ Earth Day Network looks forwards to many interesting programs together with Soumik in the coming months.”
