Aspiration Partners With EARTHDAY.ORG To “Restore Our Earth”
(April 21, 2021, Washington, D.C.) — Aspiration, a socially conscious and sustainable financial firm that enables customers to spend and save their money in ways that protect the planet, today announced a partnership with EARTHDAY.ORG, the global organizer of Earth Day, which will include a featured role in EARTHDAY.ORG’s “Earth Day Live: Restore Our Earth” livestream on April 22. This comes after the launch of the company’s first credit card, Aspiration Zero, earlier this month. The first of its kind, this credit card will automatically bring the average American to carbon neutral status just through regular use — with cash back rewards as they do so.
“When we started Aspiration, we didn’t set out to build a bank, we set out to build a better world,” Aspiration co-founder and CEO Andrei Cherny said. “We’re proud to partner with an organization that has been doing just that since the very first Earth Day.”
As part of its collaboration with EARTHDAY.ORG, Aspiration is hosting a panel on how individual climate action scales into collective action to Restore Our Earth, featuring Cherny with intersectional environmentalist Pattie Gonia (Wyn Wiley), venture capitalist Kevin O’Leary of ABC’s Shark Tank, 1% For The Planet CEO Kate Williams, and EARTHDAY.ORG President Kathleen Rogers.
Aspiration will also host a discussion on environmental justice in banking that will feature Ben Jealous, Aspiration Board Member, President of People For the American Way and former President/CEO of the NAACP with Phil Radford, former Executive Director of Greenpeace.
In less than a year, Aspiration has funded the planting of over 6 million trees. This planting level and Aspiration’s commitment to plant 100 million trees in a decade makes it one of the largest corporate sponsors of reforestation in the country.
“Earth Day 2021 is a critical stepping stone for the world to commit to fighting the climate crisis on a global scale to mend our Earth. In order to make important strides in restoration, we must get every sector involved.” said Kathleen Rogers, President of EARTHDAY.ORG. “The financial industry, including Aspiration, can be a key player in driving sustainable investments and innovation to combat climate change.”
EARTHDAY.ORG’s “Earth Day Live: Restore Our Earth” digital event starts at 12PM ET on April 22. It will feature workshops, panel discussions, and special musical performances that illustrate and empower Earth Day’s 2021 theme, “Restore Our Earth,” examining natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems. World climate leaders, grassroots activists, nonprofit innovators, thought leaders, industry leaders, artists, musicians, influencers, and more will be involved.
