P&G Future Friendly Recognizes Earth Day Network Service Campaign: A Billion Acts of Green®

(Washington DC – Sept. 30) The Procter & Gamble company has honored Earth Day Network with an award in recognition of its contribution to global environmental sustainability. The award was given at a P&G event held in conjunction with the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, and recognized Earth Day Network’s work to raise awareness and motivate individuals to improve their environmental performance through the adoption of environmentally beneficial habits. The award recognized Earth Day Network’s partnership in helping P&G to reach key social and environmental sustainability goals.

P&G Future Friendly partnered with Earth Day Network in 2010 to promote Earth Day Network’s Billion Acts of Green® campaign. The campaign has registered over 40-million green actions from individuals, non-governmental organizations and corporations.

“We are honored that A Billion Acts of Green® has been recognized by P&G Future Friendly as a key program to advance sustainability worldwide,” said Kathleen Rogers, Earth Day Network President. “The Billion Acts of Green® is the largest service campaign in the world. We know that over one billion people worldwide observe Earth Day. Now we are asking these individuals, corporations and organizations to make simple but important changes in their daily lives to help secure a sustainable future for us all. ”

Earth Day Network’s Billion Acts of Green® website archiveedn.wpengine.com quantifies environmental actions through its online event registration tool. Earth Day Network’s Facebook and iPhone applications, underwritten by P&G Future Friendly, helps spread the Billion Acts of Green® through social media.

Over the next two years, a Billion Acts of Green® will continue to be promoted, grow and reach its goal of one billion actions. During this time period, Earth Day Network will celebrate milestones reached and the people behind them through a series of contests, events, blogs and videos, including the current global search for the individual who completes 50 millionth Act of Green.

The Billion Acts of Green® campaign will culminate in 2012 at the Earth Summit in Rio. The Conference, entitled ‘New Foundations for the Future: Looking ahead to Earth Summit 2012,’ is jointly organized by Stakeholder Forum and the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN NGLS).
