Obama Administration puts the lives of thousands of Americans at risk Blocking of EPA Ozone Rule is Major Setback

Washington DC -September 2, 2011 –In a win for the business community and a loss for the American people the Obama Administration has hastily pulled back on national smog standards. The move sidelines Environmental Protection Agency efforts to reduce ground-level ozone–otherwise known as smog–and improve the nation’s air quality. “We are disappointed that the Administration would put the lives of thousands of Americans at risk,” said Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network.  “It is difficult to understand why President Obama would undercut the efforts of state and local officials, environmentalists, and the health community who together are working to make the U.S. competitive in the burgeoning green economy and to protect the health of our children.”  “This isn’t exactly the change we were seeking.”
