Great news: Students from Benjamin Banneker High School and the IN3 Incubator in Washington, D.C. took the second place prize in NASA’s 2018 OPSPARC Competition. The challenge called for students to use existing NASA technology for their innovative projects.
THE PROJECT FOCUS
Clean water.
THE PROJECT“H2NO to H2O” takes NASA technology designed for water purification and incorporates it into school water systems to remove impurities.
THE CITIZEN SCIENTISTS BEHIND THE PROJECT
Mikayla Sharrieff, India Skinner, and Bria Snell, high school juniors at Benjamin Banneker High School in Washington, D.C. and in IN3, the area’s first community space with a focus on inclusion, innovation and incubation. From their statement about the competition: “The ladies salute NASA for their continued outreach to students interested in STEM education.”
EDN was thrilled to have the students attend our Climate Leadership Gala in May, where we brought them on stage for a round of applause for their work.
