Earth Day Network Statement on Commercial Whaling
January 25, 2019
Statement from Earth Day Network’s President, Kathleen Rogers, on news reports of Japan’s plans to resume the commercial hunting of whales, and the international protests in London and elsewhere.
“Whales are remarkable, intelligent and sentient creatures. For those reasons and others, almost all countries around the world now subscribe to an international norm banning commercial whaling to protect these magnificent species. Earth Day Network stands in solidarity today with those voices condemning Japan for its decision to resume whaling and withdraw from the International Whaling Commission. We can and must right this wrong. Simply put, the time has finally come for all countries to end commercial whaling.”
We must do more to protect our species including whales.
