Caue Suplicy

Caue Suplicy is the Founder of Barnana, the maker of organic and sustainable banana and plantain snacks. A native Brazilian, Caue hails from the southern city of Curitiba, which pioneered environmentally sustainable urbanization and retains its status as one of the world’s most sustainable cities.

Growing up in Brazil in the 1980’s, Caue’s parents instilled a healthy lifestyle and macrobiotic diet during his childhood. Caue distinctly recalls his father dehydrating a variety of fruits in their backyard to make healthy, chewy snacks for the whole family.

At 21, Caue moved to the USA to pursue his dream of becoming a professional triathlete. His training regime included fueling his body with the dehydrated banana snacks he brought from his hometown in Brazil. Soon all of his friends and training mates were asking about these delicious, healthy snacks, and from there the idea of creating Barnana for the U.S. market was born.

Barnana’s mission is to provide innovative, healthier, delicious, banana and plantain-based snacks while minimizing its impact on the environment. Barnana is a certified B-Corporation, focused on expanding its partnerships with farmers and Indigenous communities in the Amazon. Since its inception, Barnana has upcycled 100 million bananas into healthier, delicious, sweet snacks like Banana Bites and Cookie Brittle. Upcycled bananas are just short of the ideal length for bananas, or a day shy of retail-demanded ripeness and helps the unwanted crop from becoming landfill that emits harmful greenhouse gases.

Barnana is a founding member of the Upcycled Food Association and Caue is a member of the Board of Directors.

Barnana products – Banana Bites, Cookie Brittle, Plantain Chips and the new Plantain Tortilla Chips – can be found online at Barnana.com and Amazon, as well as Whole Foods, Costco, CVS, Kroger, Safeway and other fine grocers.
