Tell Congress: Support the Plastic Pellet Free Waters Act
For nearly 30 years, our government has failed to address the pollution of tiny plastic pellets known as nurdles. These small plastic beads are not just an environmental issue — they’re a direct threat to human health. Nurdles enter our waterways, carrying harmful bacteria such as E. coli and cholera, contaminating water sources that millions of Americans depend on for drinking water, seafood, and recreation.
Once released into the environment, nurdles break down into microplastics that infiltrate every aspect of our lives. They can be found in our food, the air we breathe, and even our bodies. Microplastics have been detected in vital organs such as the lungs, liver, and kidneys, posing serious long-term health risks.
Shockingly, despite their widespread presence and harmful effects, nurdles are not even classified as pollutants. The Plastic Pellet Free Waters Act (H.R. 7634, S. 2337) aims to change that by empowering the Environmental Protection Agency to regulate the handling of nurdles and prevent further pollution.
It’s time to prioritize public health. Take action today by telling your elected officials to support this critical legislation and protect us all from the dangers of plastic pellet pollution.
