In 2023, a heartwarming tale of resilience and community spirit unfolded across the waters of Jugal, Paip Para, and Sim Pukur ponds in Kolkata, India. EARTHDAY.ORG and our partners cleared the ponds of trash and invasive water hyacinth, restoring the natural resources to health and prosperity for the local community. In an extraordinary effort of unity and determination, 381 committed locals came together and clocked an astonishing 33,054 hours to remove 64 tons of waste — equivalent to over 10 adult elephants — to restore the ponds.
