Rhode Island follows the Next Generation Science Standards as a framework for teaching climate change, and has also introduced a number of bills in the senate for the purpose of increasing climate change education (though they have all died in committee). Rhode Island has not only made progress thus far, but are continuously attempting to implement change to better the standing of climate change education in the state.
The 2023 legislative session saw two pairs of similar climate education bills fail. HB6105/SB551 and HB6106/SB558 would have appropriated resources for climate change protection programs, including educational institutions.
