EARTH DAY NETWORK DIRECTOR OF POLICY DANIEL BRINDIS’ STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF CHILD NUTRITION BILL
December 2, 2010
For Immediate Release
December 2, 2010
“Congress has charted a new course in the right direction by passing the Child Nutrition Bill today. This bill will improve the nutritional value of both school lunches and the food in vending machines for more than 50 million children. The new law will also provide unprecedented support for school gardens and wellness education.
“This new bill also helps make school food more environmentally friendly by providing options for local sourcing and organic food pilot projects.
“Farm-to-school and school garden programs are effective tools that promote environmental literacy, wellness education, and physical activity.
“We are pleased with the bill’s successful passage, but the journey to provide the ideal school lunch and end child obesity is far from over. We will continue to work with our partners and legislators at the federal and state level to improve the health of American children.”
