LOS ANGELES (April 14, 2010) – Earth Day Network today announced that AVATAR director James Cameron is confirmed to speak at The Climate Rally on Sunday, April 25 in Washington, D.C. for the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. This follows another recent announcement from Earth Day Network and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to plant one million trees globally this year. The AVATAR Blu-ray and DVD will be available everywhere on Earth Day, April 22. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Earth Day Network, the international non-profit organization that coordinates Earth Day annually and works year-round on climate change, environmental education and broadening the environmental movement, are partnering for the Home Tree Initiative to plant native trees in 15 countries in 2010. This program is part of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment’s parent company News Corporation’s Global Energy Initiative, a commitment to reducing the company’s impacts on the climate and the environment, transforming the way it uses energy, and engages the global audience with the issues. Earth Day Network will collaborate with established environmental NGOs, forestry services and government agencies to plant trees native to each region in 15 countries including, The United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Haiti. Earth Day Network is committed to working with experienced international partners to plant trees. To help raise awareness and support for the initiative, Fox has created “The AVATAR Program.” Through a unique code found inside the AVATAR Blu-ray and DVD, consumers can register at www.avatarmovie.com. Those fans will be able to adopt one of the one million trees being planted on behalf of Earth Day and receive a virtual home tree to represent that actual tree.
