The Face of Climate Change: Update, April 17
Five days until Earth Day! As the big day approaches, thousands of people around the globe are sharing their stories—stories of the impact that climate change has had on their lives, and the extraordinary efforts that they are making to fight it. Each one represents a different Face of Climate Change.
Here are some new highlights:
In Seychelles, The Face of Climate Change is the face of a woman concerned about rising sea levels and the effect that they will have on the islanders.
The Face of Climate Change is also in Bintan, Indonesia, where a group of people releases 103 green sea turtle hatchlings. Sea turtle numbers have dwindled recently because of habitat degradation.
In Glen Burnie, Maryland, a young girl practices sustainable gardening at her home.

On Earth Day – April 22 – the Face of Climate Change will show itself at thousands of events around the world. In Washington DC, the Kehila Chadasha congregation will host a speaker in honor of Earth Day. Karen Sack—director of International Ocean Conservation for the Pew Environment Group—will speak about the state of the oceans, including her role in preventing overfishing in Europe, protecting sharks and other marine life, establishing large-scale marine reserves, and combating illegal fishing. Kehila Chadasha will start the day with its annual Green Raffle to benefit environmental nonprofits. They will auction off books about living a green lifestyle, gift certificates from local nurseries, and other items from our green storehouse of mugs and bags.
Meanwhile, in Peru, WindAid plans to unveil their new wind turbine in honor of Earth Day. Located at the Pastoruri Glacier, it will be the highest altitude wind turbine in the world, providing clean power for thousands of Peruvians.
In Belarus, Ecoproject Belarus will collaborate with various NGO partners across the country to host several Earth Day events. Events will include a youth education campaign in Mogilev about the concept of an ecological footprint, a community clean-up in Polotsk, a flash mob in Beloozersk, and a landscape design contest in Schuchin.
Earth Day is fast approaching. Find out how you can get involved.
