Saving Forests for World Environment Day 2011

Earth Day Network firmly believes that Earth Day should be celebrated every day. Here’s another opportunity to act for the environment – our partners at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) are organizing events and a global competition for World Environment Day 2011 on June 5th. World Environment Day (WED) aims to propel environmental awareness and to serve as a day of action for positive environmental action globally. This year’s theme is “Forests: Nature at Your Service” and New Delhi, India will serve as the host city. Earth Day Network – India staff are putting on an event with the Mayor of Kolkata to celebrate WED.

You can take action too! Here are a few ways:
- Pledge your positive environmental actions to A Billion Acts of Green®, Earth Day Network’s ongoing campaign to aggregate global action for sustainability.

- Since this year’s WED commemorates the UN International Year of the Forest, you can join in re-foresting the world by planting trees or contributing Earth Day Network’s Canopy Project.

- Would you rather take action for an endangered species? Check out UNEP’s Legacy Project, which has gathered over $100,000 in individual donations to support gorilla protection in Rwanda.

Since 1970, Earth Day has been a platform for individual, community, and global awareness for our planet’s wonderful and threatened resources. Earth Day Network and WED share the belief that everyone can make a difference in achieving positive change for the environment. Join us, on Earth Day, World Environment Day and every day!

I wish I was in India to see this beautiful celebration! Wherever you are this Sunday, lets make WED known! Turn off your TV, leave the car behind, and get outside to play in Nature!
