Trust for the National Mall Partners with Earth Day Network for Global Day of Service on April 17th

Saturday TNM kicks off Earth Day’s 40th Anniversary with voluntary mall clean up

  Washington, DCSaturday, the Trust for the National Mall and Earth Day Network will partner to host a cleanup of the National Mall as part of Earth Day’s 40th Anniversary. More than 200 volunteers from the Washington Metropolitan area will assist the National Park Service in restoration efforts such as weeding and litter pick-up around the FDR Memorial. “The Trust for the National Mall is excited to partner with Earth Day Network on this wonderful project,” said Caroline Cunningham, President of the Trust. “Volunteers play an essential role in the maintenance and preservation of the National Mall. We are grateful to the support of the Washington, DC community in making the National Mall the best park in the world.” Saturday’sevent is an opportunity for families to enjoy the Mall while becoming engaged in a service activity. T-shirts and hacky-sacks will be distributed by the Trust for the National Mall. Safeway Inc. will be providing water bottles and snacks for volunteers. Rupert Nurseries has donated gloves for all the activities. “Service is at the core of the environmental movement.
