Tell Administrator Zeldin: Protect Our Air and Our Children’s Health

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created in 1970 by Republican President Richard Nixon — just months after 20 million Americans took to the streets on the very first Earth Day demanding clean air and water. As a direct result the Clean Air Act was amended, setting strict limits on air pollution from industry and vehicles. That bipartisan agreement is now under threat from the very man who heads up the EPA, Lee Zeldin.

Administrator Zeldin has announced plans to dismantle the 2009 Endangerment Finding, the legal foundation that empowers the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. His reckless move strips his own the agency of its core authority to limit pollution from carbon dioxide, methane, and other harmful greenhouse gas emissions. This will cost America lives and turbo charge climate change.

The EPA’s own data shows the Clean Air Act prevents over 230,000 premature deaths each year. Zeldin’s plan to revoke the Endangerment Finding gives polluters a free pass to pollute, putting corporate profits over human lives.—especially our children’s.

America doesn’t have to choose between clean air and a strong economy. In 2024, nearly 90% of new U.S. power came from renewables, and clean energy jobs grew twice as fast as the rest of the economy.

EARTHDAY.ORG urges every American to tell Lee Zeldin that enough is enough and that you want the 2009 Endangerment Finding to remain in place. Protect our children’s health.
