Climate Action

Give Us 5 (Ways EARTHDAY.ORG Exchanges Ideas With You)

Swap Ideas Day is a national holiday celebrating the value of exchanging among people. At EARTHDAY.ORG, EDO, we see our environmental legacy as proof of the power of collective action and shared knowledge to safeguard our planet. While every individual holds real power and influence, the climate crisis requires collective action. When voices unite, they form a movement capable of creating meaningful change.

Here are five ideas that EARTHDAY.ORG has shared with you to solve some of the planet’s biggest challenges:

1. Join the Great Global Cleanup & Add Your Event to Our GGCU Map!

The Great Global Cleanup, GGC, aims to help rid the world of waste and plastic pollution by amplifying, supporting, and connecting the powerful work of the Great Global Cleanup movement. Plastic pollution impacts human health as well as causing environmental pollution and hurting wildlife.

EARTHDAY.ORG, EDO, is championing a reduction in plastic production of 60% by 2040, recognizing that we must address the plastic problem at its source. Make your voice heard and Sign the Global Plastics Treaty petition to call on governments around the world to create a brighter future, one without plastic pollution.

EDO has mapped out existing cleanup events taking place around the world. Please use the Global Cleanup Map to identify and register for a local cleanup in your community. The map serves as both a tool for participation and a visual representation of the global movement’s reach and impact. If there isn’t an existing cleanup nearby, we encourage you to organize a new cleanup.

2. Join Our Email List

One of the simplest ways that ideas are shared is through EDO’s email list. We send newsletters featuring our research-backed articles and lots of action ideas that you can take to renew your commitment to supporting the health of our planet.

Each email is an exchange of ideas: we share information with you about our campaigns and opportunities for environmental advocacy, while you share your ideas with us when you join our campaigns and contribute your unique voice to them.

Sign up for EDO’s email list here. Email lists are the best ways to hear what we have to say directly in your inbox, so we encourage you to sign up, especially if you’re not sure how you want to get involved.

Right now we are adding the EARTHDAY.ORG to the chorus of voices speaking up to protect the powers of the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA. Add your name to our public comments on EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s reckless intentions to gut the Agency’s own ability to regulate greenhouse gas pollution, by rescinding the Endangerment Finding.

3. Back Climate Education

EDO’s Climate Education campaign is grounded in the belief that this critically important education plays a transformative role in teaching the next generation how to best care for the planet. It envisions a world where every student is given a robust climate and environmental schooling that prepares them to be informed citizens and effective environmental stewards. Our campaign calls on policy makers at local, national, and international levels to support students and teachers by adding comprehensive climate education onto every school curriculum.

The Climate Education Coalition is a global alliance of over 100 youth organizations committed to equipping current and future generations to tackle the climate crisis through climate literacy. Their mission is to promote responsible solutions to mitigate climate change by advocating for compulsory climate education in schools worldwide. Join the Coalition here and follow them on Instagram to hear about their progress and share ideas.

To support global efforts for climate action, EDO has developed a Climate Education NDC Tracker to monitor the inclusion of climate education in each nation’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). NDCs, or Nationally Determined Contributions, are each country’s official climate action plan outlining how they will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to climate change under the Paris Agreement.

The Paris Agreement is a global treaty, adopted in 2015, by nearly all countries to limit global warming to below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, aiming for 1.5°C.

4. Re-Post Our Social Media

In today’s world, social media is one of the fastest and most effective ways to swap ideas – for example, there are around 1.3 billion photos shared on Instagram every day. EDO actively shares its ideas across multiple platforms, including Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok

The Earth Action Day Social Media Guide takes you through three easy steps to make a difference via social media. You can take Earth Action Day action or create your own pledge for the Earth any day of the year, not just on Earth Day.

5. Read and Share Our Articles

EDO writes articles practically every day to share information with you about current environmental news and practical ways for individual action.

With information coming at us from all directions, it’s become harder than ever to know what’s actually true and what’s worth our attention. Our goal is to share valuable information with you that is both accurate and understandable.

Our articles cover a spectrum of topics – from How Do I Use AI and Protect the Environment? to 6 Arguments To Refute Your Climate Denying Relatives to Lost in Limbo: Saving Wikie and Keijo – Earth Day – in bite-sized pieces so you can fit them into your day without feeling overwhelmed.

Plus, you can re-share them, post them, use them on your own websites and publications –  completely free of charge!

A Day to Share, a Movement to Build

The power of Swap Ideas Day lies not in a single day of exchange, but in the ongoing commitment to collaborative problem-solving that it represents. Together, we can share ideas – and swap a future burdened by climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation for a sustainable and thriving planet. Every positive idea shared and every smart action taken brings us closer to this vision. Exchange ideas with us every day to build a more sustainable world and create lasting change. Be part of the Earth Day.
