Earth Day 2026

Our Power, Our Planet

Welcome to Earth Day, April 22nd, 2026, a day that unites a global community of more than 1 billion people taking action for our planet. In 1970, twenty million people walked the streets of our cities and towns, and it changed everything. Yet the protections that governments put in place back then are now under attack by forces that don’t understand or care about our health, our communities, or our economy.

The challenges we face today can feel overwhelming, but we know that standing together can change everything. This Earth Day, we are calling on every person and every community—students and teachers, faith groups, ranchers, farmers, first responders, local governments—to take a stand for clean air, clean water, renewable energy, and the protection of our health and the countless species that share this planet with us.

Stay tuned for page updates or sign-up to get the full story. This Earth Day, join the movement—every action, big or small, makes a difference.

Environmental progress has always come from people who believed they could make a difference. Students, scientists, families, farmers, faith leaders, union members, business owners, and elected officials all have a role to play. When people take action, communities are built. When inspired communities speak up, leaders listen. When leaders act, policies shift and industries and corporations are held accountable. This is how real change happens. Your voice, your choices, and your actions are the spark that moves the world.

FAQ

EARTHDAY.ORG announces the global theme for Earth Day 2026:Our Power, Our Planet.  Our campaign calls on communities everywhere to stand up and speak out in support of our clean air, clean water, clean energy, protected natural resources and a stable climate – all of which are vital to our health and economic welfare.

Around the world environmental protections are under unprecedented assault from every direction. We thought we could achieve change through partnerships with governments. In our current reality, it appears that the only thing that will work is political pressure—loud and constant. This is our moment to demonstrate to public and private sector leaders that we will not allow hard-fought environmental laws and policies to be rolled back or bargained away. The power to protect our planet and our children’s future rests with us!

Our Power, Our Planet positions people-powered action as the catalyst for building a just, healthy and thriving world. EARTHDAY.ORG is calling on individuals, communities, schools, faith groups, and organizations to organize Earth Day events and actions in every city and region around the world on April 18th and throughout Earth week. These include:

  • Peaceful demonstrations and economic pressure campaigns
  • Local voter registration drives
  • Community organizing to protect environmental laws and demand accountability
  • Community cleanups and restoration projects
  • Teach-ins, youth leadership events, and climate education initiatives
  • Reforestation and ecosystem repair campaigns
  • Town-hall meetings with government officials, seeking commitments to build a green economy and jobs, guarantee safe, clean and affordable communities, and rid our neighborhoods of toxics and plastic pollution

No matter where you live, your actions help build momentum to protect lives, strengthen communities, and power the world forward.

Since the first Earth Day in 1970, people from all walks of life – from farmers and ranchers to suburban families and professionals, to factory and hospitality workers – have pressed our leaders to protect our health and the health of the other species that inhabit our planet.  These protections have saved lives for generations—preventing hundreds of thousands of premature deaths and safeguarding communities around the world.

Environmental protection and economic opportunity are not opposing pathways—they are the same road forward. Around the world, clean energy and sustainability sectors are creating millions of jobs, lowering costs, and delivering cleaner air and water for all.

“All those years ago, in 1970, we were ridiculously confident that we were going to win. We launched a genuine environmental revolution. We proved that an engaged public can be an unstoppable force. It can be again in 2026. Our Power, Our Planet

is about being resolute and strategic. Let us together create that same intense public demand to protect the planet, and ourselves, that we created back in 1970.”  – Denis Hayes, organizer of the first Earth Day and board chair emeritus of EARTHDAY.ORG
Earth Day’s enduring legacy is the power of people rising together. Join us on April 18th and throughout 2026 as we harness our shared strength to defend and preserve our progress.

Our Power, Our Planet. The Time to Act is Now.
