Earth Day Network Education Partners
Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) delivers in-person, science-based, multimedia presentations on the facts behind climate change and what students can do to stop it. ACE presentations are free for schools and available in assembly or classroom formats (45-60 minutes). After the assembly, ACE helps students take action through climate change toolkits, grants, scholarships, online communities and more. Earth Day Network and ACE have worked closely together on everything from a comprehensive student activist toolkit to sharing networks and outreach.
The Campaign for Environmental Literacy aims to help organize and mobilize the collective tools and assets of the environmental education community in order to secure support and encouragement for vibrant, integrated environmental education programs across the nation. On behalf of Earth Day Network, our Education team is one of the eight national partners of the Campaign.
The Media Policy Center Foundation (MPC) is a groundbreaking and award-winning media foundation dedicated to building better communities through empowering productions and localized outreach. MPC has recently completed a new film for PBS called Growing Greener Schools, of which Earth Day Network’s Education Director Sean S. Miller is featured. Our Education team had the distinct privilege of authoring the Appendix section of the upcoming Growing Green Schools book of the same name.
The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) provides knowledge to trusted professionals who, with their credibility, amplify messages to national audiences to solve everyday environmental problems. NEEF and Earth Day Network have had a successful partnership for years, stemming from Earth Day Network’s continued participation in National Environmental Education Week, the week before Earth Day each year.
The No Child Left Inside® Coalition is composed of environmental, educational, and public health organizations, businesses, civic organizations and other public enterprises, all dedicated to ensuring a comprehensive education for all. On behalf of Earth Day Network, our Education team is a proud founding member and promoter of the Coalition.
PBS, with its nearly 360 member stations, offers all Americans — from every walk of life — the opportunity to explore new ideas and new worlds through television and online content. Each month, PBS reaches more than 110 million people through their local stations and nearly 19 million people online, inviting them to experience the worlds of science, history, nature and public affairs; to hear diverse viewpoints; and to take front row seats to world-class drama and performances. In association with WGBH of Boston and American Experience, our Education team had the distinct honor to write the curriculum for the PBS film, Earth Days.
The United Nations Environmental Programme’sTunza branch (UNEP-Tunza) is an UN Environment initiative aimed at engaging youth in environmental activities, awareness and advocacy. UNEP-Tunza working to ensure that the next generation of global leaders are educated and advocating for the preservation and protection of the planet.
Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), a campaign by Youth Service America (YSA), mobilizes youth world-wide to address the needs of their communities through service and awareness. Every year, YSA's Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) engages youth in over 100 countries to work locally on global issues. Our partnership with YSA will coordinate an international effort towards greening the global community around Earth Day 2010 for GYSD. The event this year will be held April 23-25 and focus on environmental community service for Earth Day 2010.
Sierra Gorda is focusing on the Biodiversity Conservation in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, a project that brings youth environmental leaders together to preserve biodiversity through service. Many of their initiatives also involve environmental education and awareness programs and various environmental projects.
Earth Action Mauritius (TEAM2010), an initiative to celebrate Earth Day and Japan’s Candle Night, has organized various competitions between schools, including the School Green Cup Challenge (SGCC) and UOM Green Campus Competition.
The Wisewater Foundation works with schools in Ghana to implement environmental education, teacher training and school greenings related to water issues. With the goal of integrating environmental themes into school curricula, the Foundation has launched initiatives called 'Water For All' and 'Green Your School,' engaging students in an eco-friendly world through harvesting rainwater, planting trees and indigenous flora. Wisewater is currently collaborating with the Ghana Education Services and the Ghana Water Company Limited to improve the situation for schoolchildren in Accra.
The Qatar Foundation International brings youth together through education and research opportunities. The Foundation aims to connect the United States and the Middle East, particularly Qatar, through various culture and education initiatives.
Save the Rainforest Inc. seeks to involve youth in campaigns to save rainforests, as well as provide environmental education tips and curriculum to educators. Save the Rainforest Inc. and the Earth Day Network, with similar goals in mind, have partnered together this Earth Day in order to encourage young activists to expand, improve, and continue the environmental movement.

Nepal Development Fund (NDF) coordinates opportunities to engage youth in Nepal. Earth Day Network is entering into a dynamic partnership with the Nepal Development Fund (NDF) to coordinate events and advocacy programming for Earth Day 2010. NDF is currently developing workshops and training programs surrounding environmental issues in preparation for Earth Day. For the 40th anniversary, NDF is contributing a tremendous effort by managing more than 40 events in Nepal!
The Barka Foundation works to ensure environmental sustainability while achieving universal primary education in schools in Burkina Faso. Between World Water Day (3/22) and Earth Day 2010 (4/22), the BARKA Foundation is calling on schools nationwide to organize "Peace, Water & Wisdom Walks" in honor of Earth Day's 40th anniversary. This initiative will raise awareness of global water scarcity and support efforts for clean water initiatives in Burkina Faso, West Africa. You can even 'walk' your class through World Water Day by learning about this initiative through BARKA's educational water curriculum and Walk-for-Water guides.
African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC) provides various avenues for youth in African nations to advocate for climate change. AYICC has different national chapters and forums that form a network of environmental leaders who educate and bring awareness to the issue of climate change.
The 2nd International School Congress brings educators, scientists and researchers together to discuss environmental issues, including climate change, preservation of biodiversity and sustainability. The organization aims to build sustainable schools and modernize environmental education.
Founded in 1991 by Dr. Jane Goodall and a group of Tanzanian students, the Roots & Shoots program is about making positive change happen — for our communities, for animals and for the environment. With tens of thousands of young people in 110 countries, the Roots & Shoots network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world. Young people identify problems in their communities and take action. Through service projects, youth-led campaigns and an interactive website, Roots & Shoots members are making a difference across the globe.
