Director of Institutional Giving Job Description

Position Type: Full Time

Compensation: $95,000 – $115,000 depending on experience

EARTHDAY.ORG (EDO) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time position, to a candidate who help grow the philanthropic support for EDO from institutions including foundation, government, and other business partnerships. The successful candidate will work remotely, or from our Washington D.C. (hybrid) and report to the Chief Development Officer.

Position Function: The Director of Institutional Giving is a key member of the development team, helping to meet fundraising goals for EDO’s work in the U.S. and around the world. The individual in this role is responsible for developing, managing, and growing institutional partnerships and contributing to the overall financial capacity of EDO.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • · Expanding the EDO base of financial support by actively pursuing private foundations, governmental, and corporate grant funding.
  • · Working with the EDO program teams to write proposals on complex and current environmental issues, discuss funding opportunities with donors and relay information to a variety of stakeholders.
  • · Performing prospect grant research and maintaining grant tracking results and reporting information in the organization’s database.
  • · Initiating contact with prospects and funders to qualify, cultivate, and close grants and commitments.
  • · Ensure active relationship building with both current and prospective funders, including regular outreach and in-person cultivation and grant compliance with funders.
  • · Maintain accurate donor files and ensure timely institutional gift acknowledgements with donor management & reporting.
  • · Stewarding institutional partnerships, including working with finance and program staff to develop interim communications materials and final reports on deliverables, and otherwise complying with all grant reporting as required by foundation donors.
  • · Understanding EDO history and programs and working with program staff to gather information necessary for proposals and reports.
  • · Securing appointments for senior management with foundation officers and other prospects.
  • · Coordinating preparation and planning for donor presentations including information packets.
  • · Providing input on and implementing fundraising strategies for EDO work.
  • · Assist with other fundraising duties as needed and assigned.

Qualifications:

  • · Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • · Minimum of five years’ experience with proven results in fundraising, including prospecting, cultivation, proposal development, and stewardship.
  • · Experience and interest in conservation issues and a nonprofit environment preferred.
  • · Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, and telephone communication.
  • · Demonstrated proficiency in common office procedures and software, including Microsoft 365 and Office Suite.
  • · Familiarity with CRM systems and donor tracking.
  • · Ability to work well in a team environmental with a wide range of people, work well under pressure, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Abilities and Skills: EDO expects the Director of Institutional Giving to possess:
  • · Ability to work independently, managing a variety of projects and tasks effectively, with minimal oversight, in a remote environment.
  • · Ability to represent the EDO with diverse partners and funders in a clear and professional manner through excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • · Ability to build relationships by communicating the EDO mission and discussing EDO programs and projects with professionalism, enthusiasm, passion, candor, and nuance.
  • · Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • · A commitment to the mission of EDO, ethical fundraising principles and DEI principles.
  • · Both resilience and a sense of humor.

Location: The position may be remote or work out of our Washington D.C. (hybrid).

Compensation: EDO offers compensation commensurate with skills and experience and will include a competitive benefits package. Salary for this position will be in the $95k-$115k range commensurate with experience and considering locality.
