This year’s 2018’s Climate Visionary Award was presented to Nancy Pfund, Founder and Managing Partner of DBL Partners.

“This award sends a signal to the millions of people around the world who celebrate Earth Day that the world’s innovators and entrepreneurs are right there with you—forming companies that can help get us out of the trouble we’re in, creating quality, jobs for generations to come, and establishing once and for all a 21st century economy.” – Nancy Pfund

Kathy Bushkin Calvin, President and CEO of the UN Foundation accepted the 2018 Women and the Green Economy (WAGE) Leadership Award.

“I want to challenge us all to take the next two years, as we work up to Earth Day 2020, to agree that we will reach across the aisle, we will reach across agendas, and we will find those opportunities to reinforce each other’s causes because they will all make us stronger.” – Kathy Calvin

An evening full of inspiring speeches and motivating conversations, the Gala highlighted our 2018 End Plastic Pollution campaign and looked ahead to the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020.

“We are being as audacious now as we were in 1970. I hope all of you will be joining us in that effort…. to build an unstoppable movement.” – Denis Hayes, organizer of the first Earth Day in 1970.

We were honored to have three students from Banneker High School join us. They won second place in NASA Challenge for their work developing water purification systems for school water fountains.

Kathleen Matthews was emcee, and we heard remarks by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, U.S. Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado, NFL veteran and philanthropist Ovie Mughelli and Andrew Revkin, strategic adviser for environmental and science journalism at the National Geographic Society.

We are grateful for your continued support and for making Earth Day Network – and our 2018 Gala – a success!
