All 12 major cities in Chile made the top 30 list for the worst air quality in South America. The mix of wood burning in low industrial areas and new industrial emissions in more industrial areas are contributing to poor air quality around the country.
Chile has taken great strides to deal with the issues of air pollution, but it still continues to be a major health crisis. One solution is Chile’s continuing clean heating initiative, which aims to switch most heaters in the country from wood to natural gas or wood pellet. This proposal is major step forward for Chile’s journey to have access to clean air.
