Santa Fe County, New Mexico

The county of Santa Fe's mitigation and adaptation efforts focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energies, but also establishing other sustainable projects in different areas such as for agriculture, food security, or water resources. 

  • In 2009, the New Mexico Legislative Session passed two bills to enhance opportunities for and to encourage local residents and businesses to make renewable energy improvements. 
  • In 2010, Renewable Funding (RF) and the county of Santa Fe worked to set up a residential PACE program (Property Assessed Clean Energy Program), known as Renew Santa Fe. Later in the year, the program shifted from a residential to commercial focus. PACE Programs permit for property owners to finance energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements through the use of bonds.

  • Developing a financing district for businesses and residents to permit them to make renewable energy improvements (based on the PACE Model)

  • Developing a sustainable agriculture and food systems network with the local community and non-profit organizations
