The Himalayan Club


The Himalayan Club (HC) was founded on 17th February 1928 in the room of Field Marshall Sir William Birdwood, the then Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army.It is an International Organisation with membership comprising of leading mountaineers, reputed explorers and mountain lovers. Its motto is to disseminate knowledge of the Himalaya through Art, Science , Literature and Sport. Registered in the state of West Bengal, this organisation has its current operational head quarters at Mumbai from where its publishes the renowned Himalayan Journal (HJ) that is distributed globally to many countries. Its many sections, including Kolkata undertakes regular seminars, lecture talks on various aspects of the Himalaya and its environment and also arranges regular rock climbing and mountaineering expeditions to high and difficult Himalayan peaks.
