Organize an Earth Day Event

On April 22, 1970, twenty million Americans took to the streets in protest of the rampant pollution throughout the country.  Together, these men and women laid the foundation for the modern environmental movement. As a result, the U.S. government responded by establishing U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and passing the first generation of environmental protections including the Clean Air and Water Acts and the Endangered Species Act .

Today, Earth Day is still a tremendous vehicle for change.  In an era where carbon emissions are sky-rocketing and effective climate and clean energy legislation could provide millions of young graduates with green employment, it is vital that organizations and individuals come together and demand a sustainable future.  Earth Day is the perfect platform for environmental organizations to re-ignite the environmental concerns of the nation, teach new audiences about climate and clean energy, and advocate our leaders to act.

Ideas for Your Event:

The first Earth Day in 1970 brought the environment into the political spotlight with thousands of rallies and events. Earth Day Network wants Earth Day 2012 to Mobilize the Earth around issues related to sustainability. Our 2012 campaigns are designed to provide people with the opportunity to unite their voices in a call for a sustainable future and direct them towards quantifiable outcomes. Your event is crucial in helping reach this goal as well as achieving A Billion Acts of Green®  before the Rio+20 Earth Summit in June 2012.
