Online Engagement Manager- Earth Day Network
Description:
Earth Day Network seeks a high-energy, motivated individual for broad-based engagement in environmental issues through digital media. This position is responsible for enhancing social media and online marketing for Earth Day Network. The chosen candidate will build awareness for EDN’s work using online and social media, with an emphasis on increased engagement, list building, and fund raising through our websites and social media accounts.
This is a full-time position in Washington, DC. Reports to Online Director.
Responsibilities:
• Present comprehensive strategic online and social media ideas – in connection with other existing marketing, communication, and development campaigns.
• Provide direction and relevant insights that will guide social media efforts – independent of existing campaigns.
• Apply knowledge to help develop social media marketing that add value to preserving brand identity.
• Synthesize and analyze EDN engagement and present weekly reports.
• Monitor trends in social media and web marketing, manage EDN social media accounts.
• Assist with production of email advocacy and fundraising blasts
Qualifications:
• 2-3 years experience with digital advocacy and marketing
• Deep understanding of Facebook and Twitter platforms, solid track record building influence and followers on both networks
• Thorough understanding of best practices in digital advocacy, online fund raising and supporter list management
• Experience creating metrics-based campaigns that work, familiarity with KPIs, social media and web analytics
• Familiar with web user experience and design best practices
• Familiar with CSS, HTML, and Drupal
• Working knowledge of CRM systems, Democracy in Action preferred
• The ideal candidate will also have solid graphic design and video editing skills
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

POSITION TITLE: Manager, Foundation Relations

Earth Day Network, a dynamic and growing international environmental advocacy organization headquarted in Washington DC, is looking for an exceptional person to serve as its Manager of Foundation Relations.
Position Summary:
The Manager of Foundation Relations is a key Development team member responsible for ensuring the achievement of Earth Day Network’s foundation fundraising goals, as well as the continued growth and effective management of EDN's program of work. The position reports to the Senior Vice President for Marketing & Development. The position also indirectly supervises a Development Coordinator that supports the department on prospect research, calendaring, proposal writing, and development communications.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Development, implementation, and oversight of work plans to achieve EDN's foundation and corporate foundation fundraising goals:
Oversight of department business processes related to foundation and corporate fundraising:
Identifying key opportunities affecting EDN's foundation and corporate fundraising success:
- Identify and prioritize activities to engage foundation, corporation, and corporate foundation donors and prospects.
- Guide cultivation and solicitation strategies for foundation and corporate donors and prospects.
- Facilitate Executive Team in preparation of representing EDN to foundation and corporate foundation donors and prospects.
- Personally manage and engage with a portfolio of foundation and corporate donors and prospects.
- Develop proposals, reports, budgets and related correspondence for foundation and corporate donors and prospects.
- Develop staff capacity to prepare proposals, reports, budgets and related correspondence

- Ensure appropriate use of the Raiser's Edge database to capture research, call/actions and related strategy to track foundation and corporate fundraising activities.
- Coordinate with EDN Accounting Department to track and verify foundation and corporate contributions.
- Coordinate with EDN Senior Management Team and Accounting Department to track grant expenditures.
- Assist the Senior Vice President for Marketing & Development with periodic status report to EDN President and reports to the board of directors.
- Consistently mentor Development Associate and/or Development interns to ensure professional development, effective performance, and progress toward annual goals.
- Assist VP of Corporate Development in achieving deliverables of sponsorship agreements. This includes being extremely knowledgeable about current and previous sponsor relationships.
- Monitor relevant philanthropic trends and contributions via professional fundraising journals, on-line and traditional media/press.
- Maintain familiarity with relevant issues in the private sector and the broader economy.
- Achieve and sustain fluency with regard to EDN's portfolio of past and current donors and prospective donors.
Management of special projects as requested by the Senior Vice President for Marketing & Development.
Excellent writing and organizational skills are essential and required. Five years non-profit foundation grantsmanship experience preferred.

Earth Day Network Internship Annoucements
Earth Day Network (EDN) is a driving force steering environmental awareness around the world. EDN's network reaches over 22,000 organizations in 192 countries, while the domestic program engages 10,000 groups and over 40,000 educators coordinating millions of community development and environmental protection activities throughout the year. Our mission is to grow and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable planet. The following positions are available for the Winter/Spring 2011 term. In addition to working closely with specific departments, interns will have the opportunity to play a vital role in the planning and implementation of 2011 Earth Day Events on the National Mall. Communications Intern
Reporting to the Creative Director, interns will research and write blogs and longer opinion pieces, create press releases, media lists, graphics and contact reporters on behalf of the organization, perform general office tasks and attend meetings and seminars.
Responsibilities:
· Monitoring and distributing daily news clips;
· Researching information for opeds, press releases and fact sheets;
· Creating written and verbal pitches to journalists;
· Creating media lists using Cision database;
· Writing blogs, opeds, and press releases;

Development Intern
Type of position: Internship, part time
Duration: Summer 2011

Summary:
Earth Day Network’s (EDN) mission is to broaden the environmental movement worldwide and to educate and mobilize people, governments, and corporations to take responsibility for a clean and healthy environment. It is the premier environmental civic education organization in the world. EDN can only be effective if adequate funds are raised, making a top-notch development team essential for the organization to carry out its mission and expand in future years. The development internship will allow qualified candidates to aid in all aspects of NGO funding.
Responsibilities:
· Researching and maintaining accurate lists of contact information for prospect foundations and corporations
· Compiling documents for proposals, often under tight deadlines; faxing documents to foundation/corporation contacts when necessary
· Helping to write and edit newsletters and other documents for website and donor lists

Earth Day University Intern
The Earth Day University campaign encourages student leaders from college campuses across the nation to organize Earth Day events that will unite their campuses around individual acts of green and alter the perception policy makers have of the environment. Interns will assist with Earth Day University and Earth Day 2012 projects, help develop creative outreach initiatives, and extend EDN’s network of students and campuses across the country.
Specific Intern Responsibilities
The Earth Day University Intern will have the opportunity to:

Earth Day New Media Internship
The Earth Day University campaign encourages student leaders from college campuses across the nation to organize Earth Day events and that will unite their campuses around individual acts of green and alter the perception policy makers have of the environment. This year the campaign will host a nationwide university competition to mobilize campus communities everywhere and generate thousands of acts of green. The Earth Day New Media Intern will assist with Earth Day University and Earth Day 2012 projects, manage social media outreach for the competition, and develop creative new media projects to inspire and recruit university students to participate.

Education Intern
Here is a chance to combine your interest in environmental issues with your passion for education, and to make positive changes in K-12 schools nationwide - through curricula, events and Earth Day Network’s far-reaching Educators’ Network. The Education Intern works with the Education Department at Earth Day Network (EDN) to support members of EDN’s Educators’ Network and school-based greening activities.
Responsibilities
· Assist in the development and dissemination of curricula and lesson plans on K-12 environmental education, school greening, and civics;
· Coordinate outreach to network members and new constituents in their area of interest;
· Strengthen ties with our many network member groups and the widespread development of Education events and action plans;
· Help EDN’s Educators Network members generate and manage specified programs and Education events/ideas;
· Contribute to the strategic planning of events and actions;

Green Schools Intern
The Green Schools Intern works in the Education department to support our green school activities and National Green Schools Campaign, which seeks to green all of America’s schools within a generation. The intern will help promote widespread environmental awareness, create school greening education resources, and conduct “green makeovers” at selected K-12 schools across the country.
Responsibilities
· Create resources and materials on our programs and events;
· Assist in the research, writing and development of curricula and lesson plans for grades; K-12 on environmental education, civics and green schools.;
· Aid in the writing of descriptions promoting our Education Network for use in our online newsletter, creation of our website and/or educational materials for teachers.;

Earth Day Domestic Programs Internship
Earth Day Network seeks a high-energy, motivated individual to intern (20-40 hours) for broad-based engagement in environmental issues its domestic campaigns. This position is responsible for enhancing all domestic Earth Day Network programs.
Duties include:
1. Establishing, building and maintaining strong relationships with grassroots service NGOs, faith and government leaders;
2. Assisting with the launching of programs for all domestic campaigns;
3. Helping to organize and manage logistics of domestic campaigns:
Qualifications:
4 year college degree (enrolled or graduated);
Relationship-building and managing projects;
Strong organizational and project management skills: experience coordinating multiple projects and meeting deadlines while remaining focused when under pressure;

Religious Outreach Intern
Earth Day Network’s Religious Outreach Program engages civil society in environmental initiatives, campaigns, and events to build awareness and enable action, especially for vulnerable and under-represented populations such as women, youth, and local authorities. Through advocacy, green schools, policy, and women’s initiatives, our programs empower and engage individuals, communities, and countries to create a greener economy and more sustainable future. Leaders from all faiths have demonstrated that stewarding and caring for the Earth is wholly consistent with religious belief. This year, thousands of religious leaders are preparing sermons to give to their congregations during the week of Earth Day. The Religious Outreach Intern will play a pivotal role in engaging and bringing together these communities for the 42nd Anniversary of Earth Day.
In addition to working closely with specific departments, interns will have the opportunity to play a vital role in the planning and implementation of 2012 Earth Day Events on the National Mall. International Intern:

Partnership Management Intern:
With more than 22,000 partners, partnership management is critical to the success of Earth Day Network’s many campaigns. The Partnership management intern will work with the Director of Earth Day to manage the organization’s extensive database of partners and help form new partnerships with organizations, corporations, and governments. Additionally, the intern will work with the communications team to send updates to partners and the legal team to structure formal partnership documents.
Responsibilities:

Video Intern
Earth Day Network is looking for interns to join our communications team as we expand the organization’s digital media offerings in 2012. The internship is best suited for Communications and Journalism students who have an electronic media background and are interested in hands on video experience. Interns will help update old material as well as create new videos for various campaigns.
Responsibilities
· Developing new videos
· Updating and editing old videos;
· Managing Earth Day Network’s YouTube channel;
· Assisting in the collection and posting of partner videos;
· Help oversee the videos and photo component of the organization social media outreach;
