The first Earth Day back on April 22, 1970 was billed as a teach-in to educate the nation about the state of the environment. Earth Day Network (EDN) is the organization that was created to advance these ideas. EDN's Education Department continues to educate the public as a globally-recognized leader in environmental education. Our innovative education initiatives focus on creating a new generation of environmentally aware and democratically active citizens, as well as building healthy schools and communities. The Education Department regularly advises educators, in addition to providing environmental education and action resources, materials and tools through our 30,000-member online Educators’ Network.
