Oman’s Young Environmentalists

Inspired by A Billion Acts of Green®, Oman’s Ministry of Education has called upon its 1,040 schools to learn about and take action for the environment. Using Earth Day Network’s year-round campaign for environmental action, and its award-winning lesson plans and educational resources, over 500,000 students and teachers are showing that Earth Day should be celebrated every day.

Over 500,000 students and teachers have joined A Billion Acts of Green® and are planting trees, conducting environmentally themed lessons and building community awareness nationwide. An outstanding example comes from Thumrait School’s Grade 11 students, who organized various green activities on May 10. Their Acts of Green included a short drama sketch and group discussions about climate change and the planet’s carrying capacity.

Through these students’ actions and A Billion Acts of Green®, it is clear that Earth Day Network and Oman’s Ministry of Education share a belief that we must act together to achieve real progress on the environmental challenges we face.
