Earth Day Network and Southwest partner to plant trees in Denver

On May 17, 2014, Earth Day Network  working with its Denver partner, the Park People , and volunteers from Southwest Airlines, Monarch Montessor School teachers and community members on a organized a tree planting project at Monarch Montessori School in the Montbello neighborhood of northeast Denver, CO. The group successfully planted and mulched 20 deciduous trees (including Elms, Maples, Oaks, Hackberries, Honeylocusts, among others) appropriate for Denver’s urban conditions and Colorado’s arid climate.

A plan was put in place for a drip irrigation system for the trees for their continued care. The Montbello community is enthusiastic about the beauty and shade the new trees will bring to the neighborhood.  EDN is proud to enhance the city forest in one of Denver’s tree-poor neighborhoods, support the goals of a local school, build community connections, and support a culture of corporate responsibility and volunteerism while also benefiting the environment.  Thank you Southwest Airlines for helping to make this happen!
