D.C. Students Attend Climate Leadership Gala

There were some special guests in attendance for Earth Day Network’s fourth annual Climate Leadership Gala: 23 high school students from the D.C. area who take a special interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. Many are part of a high school robotics team.

Six D.C. area schools were represented: Coolidge, Benjamin Banneker Academic, Friendship Collegiate, School Without Walls, Whitman, and Wilson.

Jaden Smith and Overbrook Entertainment sponsored the students to attend the Gala so that the attendees could encourage their continued achievements and commitment to creating an environmentally sustainable future. The students were also invited to participate in the XPRIZE After Earth Challenge.

The student attendance is part of Earth Day Network’s commitment to investing in young people’s potential to solve environmental challenges. Students were inspired by key speakers such as Elon Musk, Sir Richard Branson, and U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, who encouraged them to envision what’s possible for a renewable energy future.

Earth Day Network is proud to support these student leaders and STEM education.
