EDN Joins “Global Festival” to End Poverty

The largest syndicated charity concert in online and broadcast TV history will take place in New York City’s Central Park on Saturday, September 29, 2012: the Global Citizen Festival. Organized by The Global Poverty Project, this event will shine a spotlight on extreme poverty. More than just a concert, the event is designed to actually help people do something about the problem. The event coincides with the United Nations General Assembly meeting taking place in New York City, where 190 world leaders will be gathered.

Earth Day Network has been selected as the official Sustainability Partner for the project.

Neil Young, Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses and K’Naan will perform, joined by a host of celebrities and by luminaries in the movement to end extreme poverty around the world. The event will be broadcast live on MTV, Fuse, YouTube, Vevo, The New York Times, Yahoo, AOL and many more. The buzz around this event and its expected impact is already enormous.

Earth Day Network got involved because we think it’s important to make a strong connection between global poverty and climate change. Each of the event’s nonprofit partners represents one of the eight UN Millenium Development Goals. And onstage, each partner will be announcing a major commitment to further these goals.

Regular admission tickets to this event don’t cost any money. They must be earned through simple individual actions that fight poverty. Click here to register as a Global Citizen and earn your ticket. There are also a small number of VIP tickets for sale. If you can’t attend the event, you can still make a commitment to help the cause, and you can watch the livestream on Saturday.
