GUEST BLOG: Supports Billion Acts of Green Through “Earth Day Living Contest”

This is a guest blog from Earth Day Network partner celebrated its fifth birthday on April 22, Earth Day 2012. And for the 22 days after, we’re marking the occasion with an “Earth Day Living Contest” that will run through Monday, May 14, via Facebook.

The contest is an effort to extend Earth Day beyond April 22.  The premise is simple: “How do you live Earth Day, every day?” We are asking people to tell us in 50 words or less, take a picture to illustrate their entry, and upload it to's Facebook contest page (look for the tab that says “Earth Day Living”).

We are collecting photos and messages about how people around the world have made a choice to live in a more sustainable way --- from creating a community garden to joining in on meat-free Mondays, supporting a local car-sharing initiative, volunteering, working for a not-for-profit organization, or supporting social change initiatives in a community.

All actions will contribute to Earth Day Network’s A Billion Acts of Green® campaign.

We hope the images and words submitted during our contest will help show broad support for sustainability measures as leaders head to the Rio+20 conference in Brazil in June.

Entries in the “Earth Day Living Contest“ will be judged by a panel of volunteer editors from around the world. New and longtime members also can vote on each entry via Facebook through May 14, 2012.

A prize of $1,000 (U.S.) will be given to the winning entry to support his or her chosen local not-for-profit working on environmental or social change. E-readers will be awarded to three runners-up, loaded with books by Wiser founder Paul Hawken.

How do YOU live Earth Day, every day? Tell us, good luck, and Happy Earth Day!
