Running for the Earth

As the flowers begin to bloom and the birds begin to chirp again, we know that spring is around the corner.  And what better way to celebrate the spring season, than getting outside and enjoying the world around us. Here at Earth Day Network’s Arts and Athletes for the Earth Campaigns, we have partnered with a few marathons we think you should know about:

Magnuson Series Earth Day Races located in Seattle, WA on Saturday, April 21, 2012 (http://magnusonseries.org/default.htm)

The wonderful aspect of the Magnuson film festival is that it is made for everyone. There is a 5k, 10k, 15k, and a relay. There is even a race for the kids.  It can truly be a family event! The best part is that all participants receive a sapling tree to either bring home and plant or plant in the park. What an amazing opportunity to help the environment and burn off some of those extra pounds that you might have added over the long winter.

GreenFest 2012, San Diego, CA, Sunday, April 22, 2012 (http://www.as.sdsu.edu/greenfest/index.php)

If you are located farther south, you have the opportunity to participate in GreenFest 2012 in San Diego, CA. One of the highlights from this marathon and environmental celebration is the Kids’ Diaper Dash for children ages 1-6. We can’t think of a better way to calm those over-active toddlers down! Proceeds go to the SDSU Children's Center, which helps to build and maintain gardens as a food source for the center and as a learning tool for children.

Earth Day EcoFest 5K and 10K, Ventura, CA, Saturday, April 14, 2012 (http://www.venturaearthday.org/).

Earth Day EcoFest is another great environmental marathon. The race takes place along the beautiful Ventura oceanfront, and the organizers have taken great care to make it eco-friendly. From a paperless entry process to sustainable shirts to recyclable cups, the eco-friendly creativity being put into this race is inspiring!

We would like to observe the

We would like to observe the Earth Day 2012 here in Pakistan with flood affected communities. But due to limited funding opportunities, still we are worried about to engage other stakeholders such as media, academia and government departments during Earth Day. We need a support of US$: 1000 only. If there is someone who wants to help us please contact: info@search.org.pk

Dear Friends, Greetings from

Dear Friends,
Greetings from Bhubaneswar, the Temple city of Odisha, India. I am happy to learn about innovative activities to rampant awareness for observing truly the Earth Day 2012 and aware of the magnificence of its mission. Being
influenced I wish to submit the following for consideration.

Being the International Observer of the Forest Investment Program(FIP) under the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) of The World Bank I have attended a good number of global workshops and joined the grand Partnership Forum-2011 on Climate Change at Cape Town of South Africa from June 22-30 and delivered a lecture as a panelist on 25th June. My presentation was highly appreciated.

With this backdrop I wish to request for an academic interface and exchange in any of your programs as an 'invited speaker' in the forthcoming events.

It is also an occasion for me to put it as a request for an interface to discuss on an innovative model of UNEP-GPA assisted Coastal Community Resource Center at Bhitarkanika, the National Park and'Ramsar-site', an internationally known egg-laying arribada site of the endangered 'Olive Ridley' SeaTurtles and above all a globally known sensitive climate zone and one of the unique mangrove ecosystem of Odisha.

I am an Educational Media Technologist by profession and Social Innovation Think Tank by choice, therefore, it will be an uncommon occasion and experience for me to show my scientific film on "Mangrove Ecosystem of Bhitarkanika (16mm color, Eng,48min, 1998)" and discuss about an UNEP assisted successful community management model that highlighted in the Greenbelt Report, documented by TVE-Asia Pacific of Sri Lanka and telecast in 'BBC Channel Four' .

I will be happy to receive your views to move ahead in this regard.

Regards,
Dr Bijay K. Nanda
