Student Regional Coordinators Fueling the MobilizeU Movement

The MobilizeU Movement is underway! With just a few short weeks until March 29th, the start of the competition, college students from all over the world are gearing up to generate acts of green on their campuses. So far, over 70 students internationally have mobilized their campus communities, which span six continents, 18 countries, and 24 U.S. states. We are thrilled to see so many colleges and universities participating in MobilizeU, and we can’t wait to see how many more schools will be mobilized!

A huge part of our success has come from the commitment of our Regional Coordinators, whose job it is to reach out to universities in their locales and encourage students to join MobilizeU while acting as an informational resource throughout the competition. Our Regional Coordinators have been working tirelessly to help make MobilizeU a success, and we are so impressed with how quickly they have helped the movement grow worldwide.

One of the first Regional Coordinators to join the team was Helen Ryan-Sykes from Australia. She attends Griffith University in Brisbane and is an active member of the Greens Club on her campus. When we offered Helen the entire region of Australia, we were worried that it would be too much, but she gladly accepted and even volunteered take on parts of South-East Asia. Helen told us, “I enjoy being actively involved in environmental issues that are facing all of us around the world; all of us can make a difference, no matter how small it may be.”

Another Regional Coordinator who has surpassed our expectations is Mary Ododa. Mary studies environmental science at the University of South Africa and upon joining the movement she enthusiastically took on outreach to all of Africa. She has already begun planning an Environmental Week and Environmental Fun-Run with Rhodes University of South Africa. “I am really excited to hear what other universities are planning, as far as involving the youth and university students to actively participate,” said Mary. “This is the coolest way to reach out and make a stand for the environment, and I couldn't be more honored to be a part of this event.” Universities from six African countries have already joined the MobilizeU Movement – many of which can be attributed to Mary’s hard work.

Serving as the Regional Coordinator for Jordan and the Middle East is Souher Ali Bani Moustfa, who graduated from the University of Jordan’s School of Science and Technology. Souher told us that her favorite part about MobilizeU is the fact that it is a fun way to work toward a great cause with all different kinds of students. “[The competition] makes us work together, regardless of our religion and our race, and inspires us to work with love toward a beautiful world and clean environment,” said Souher.

Remember, there is still time to sign up for MobilizeU! Become a Regional Coordinator like Helen, Mary, and Souher or facilitate MobilizeU on your campus as a School Coordinator. Visit our website for the latest updates and get ready, because the MobilizeU Month will be here before you know it!

And don’t forget to check out this week’s newsletter!
