Twenty-seven Years in the Making: EPA Releases Dioxin Report
On February 17, 2012, EPA finalized its final Reanalysis of Key Issues Related to Dioxin Toxicity and Response to NAS Comments, Volume 1. Twenty-seven years in the making, the delay of this report was due to resistance from the chemical industry. The history of the agency's efforts to regulate Dioxin is chroniclized here and shows that this process began back in 1984.
Dioxin is a known human carcinogen. Dioxin also causes a wide range of adverse non-cancer effects including reproductive, developmental, immunological, and endocrine effects in both animals and humans.
