NASA Releases Amazing High Def Picture Of Earth
NASA just releaed the latest "Blue Marble" image of the Earth. The high definition image, a composite of numerous pictures of the Earth, was taken by the Suomi NPP satellite on January 4th 2012. The NPP satellite was renamed 'Suomi NPP' on January 24, 2012 to honor the late Verner E. Suomi of the University of Wisconsin.
In 1972, the crew of Apollo 17 took what is considered to be the most popular image of the planet Earth of all time. That picture inspired the photos of the Blue Marble series for years to come. You can view a hi-res version of the 2012 Blue Marble image on NASA's Flickr page here.
