Beginning this Thursday, March 29th, youth leaders from almost 200 universities in 32 countries and 34 US states will spend four weeks educating and mobilizing their campus communities around environmental activism. We are elated to have so many passionate students from across the globe generating acts of green and using Earth Day 2012 as a platform to engage new constituencies in the environmental movement.

Earth Day Network is engaging Catholic parishes across the nation and encouraging them to participate in Earth Day Sunday so that faith leaders may share a with their parishioners the importance of protecting and nurturing our planet. Many positive responses have been coming in every day, with events ranging from the installation of solar panels at the Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Church in Holmdel, New Jersey, to roadside cleanups at Saint John Fisher Chapel in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

With Earth Day only one short month away, we are getting lots of requests for help with planning events, celebrations and actions across the world. Of course, dedicating a day to the earth and its health is one the most important things we can do for our environment. However, around here we often say that, “everyday is Earth Day,” and in that vein we wanted to help people plan not only their celebration for April 22nd, but also give tips for celebrating the earth in the days leading up to Earth Day.

Earth Day Network has teamed up with the world famous Harlem Globetrotters to promote A Billion Acts of Green and Earth Day 2012! The Globetrotters filmed a public service announcement to encourage all of their fans to participate in the campaign, and they’ll be playing it at their games between now and Earth Day.
Over 750,000 acts of green have already been committed. Pledge your act and help us make this campaign a slam dunk for Earth Day 2012!
