Creating a Green School

Green schools can be constructed anywhere across the country. In fact, green schools are being built in every state in the United States! In only a few short years, this movement has swept across different regions of the country and is now becoming the common standard for school construction and school operations nationwide. But we want to make sure that every student in America attends a green and healthy school within this generation. That’s where you come in! We need your help to make sure that our goal becomes a living reality for all 55 million students in the United States. One can help create green schools through many different methods. And this is the main reason why Earth Day Network constructed this website, the Green Schools Leadership Center, for you. We’ve broken down the green schools process into six different categories or areas of interest to help simplify such a diverse topic: Facilities, Food, Schoolyard and Outdoors, Transportation, Community Action and our Educators’ Network for curriculum-related needs. Each of these subject areas is loaded with background documents, student action plans, teacher lesson plans and other action items for you to not only begin the green schools process, but to complete it as well.

As you engage the green schools movement on a local, state or national level, we want to hear about your own stories! Feel free to share such information on our Educators’ Network or email us at education@earthday.net. If you have photos of your school and its efforts or transformations, upload them to our photo archive. In the end, we are here to help you create green schools in your local community, so please let us know if we can help!
